White County High School received information Thursday that indicated a threat of violence at the school.
A notification from Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said a law enforcement investigation found no credible threat towards the school.
“The only reason for this call is to alert you and ask that you talk to your students about the seriousness of either making such a threat or making an allegation of a threat that isn’t true,” Dronebarger said. “Our school’s commitment is to keep your child safe, and we can do that best when everyone accurately reports any suspicious activity they have seen with their own eyes or heard with their own ears.”
Dronebarger said officials learned about the alleged threat after receiving an anonymous tip through the STOPit app. That software allows students and parents to report bullying, cyber abuse, and other inappropriate behaviors.
He assured parents that extra officers would be present at the school on Friday.
“As a precaution, our SRO [School Resource Officer] and others will be present throughout the day in order to calm any nerves about this erroneous threat,” Dronebarger said.
White County Middle School went on lockdown last month after the school system received a threatening email. Local law enforcement investigated that incident and eventually took custody of the suspects.
