One Cookeville organization is working to help those struggling with addiction and other issues in the Upper Cumberland find their purpose.
Diane Roland is the Executive Director of NextStep For Life. Roland said that they provide a Christian-based, transitional living program that helps participants learn how to have healthy emotions, set boundaries, and gain a new mindset.
“Because if we don’t change their thinking, we can get them sober or get them in a safe, healthy environment,” Roland said. “But when they leave they have to be able to keep it and set their boundaries for themselves.”
Roland said that when people come into the program, they have to want to get that help. She said that if the people don’t want it, it’s hard for them to move forward and to move on.
Roland said that the group has been in action for about seven years. She said that they have helped people from all across the Upper Cumberland, with many folks from Cookeville itself.
