New Exercise Equipment Coming To Pickett’s Little League Park

Byrdstown city employees are installing new playground and exercise equipment at Pickett County’s little league ball field.

Byrdstown Mayor Sam Gibson said a new seesaw, elliptical machine and water fountain will be ready for use this December.

“It is an updated drinker. It has one that’s made that if people have their pets with them, and they are out there walking on the trail, then they can water their pets, also. And then two, at the playground one of the pieces of equipment is an elliptical for adults.”

Gibson said the equipment is being paid by the county through a state health department grant. Byrdstown is taking on the cost of pouring the concrete and prepping the area near the Pickett County High School.

“It is a $20,000 grant through the health department,”Gibson said. “The county, Pickett County, is fortunate to have that, and the city what we try to do is try to spend our money as much as we can toward the equipment, so we are putting it in free.”

Gibson said both municipalities wanted the equipment there to give adults an exercise option while their children played.

“They can be exercising and keeping an eye on the kids at the same time,” Gibson said. “We added a little extra for the kids, but we have added one for adults so they can at least do some exercising while their kids are having fun.”
