Multiple wrecks being reported across the Upper Cumberland as snow piles up quickly Thursday morning.
The Granville Highway in Jackson County has been closed, called impassable by emergency officials. Several wrecks have impacted traffic on Interstate 40 according to dispatchers. Accidents reported as of 10:30am at both mile markers 292 and 293.
White County Sheriff Steve Page asked residents to avoid travel this afternoon as possible as roads are treacherous.
Most city and county offices have closed because of the weather. Schools were already closed and Dekalb County has closed for Friday.
Meteorologist Rob Carolan said the first heavy band of snow is beginning to move north of the Upper Cumberland. A second heavy band will approach the region in the next hour He said drier air is beginning to push in south of Nashville and Spring Hill where more reports of sleet and freezing rain have come in during the last hour.
