Monterey’s Hughes Honored By Titans

Monterey head football coach Scott Hughes selected as the Tennessee Titans Week Coach of the Week following the team’s 21-0 win over Gordonsville.

Hughes said it was a surprise to receive a call from the Titans organization and an even bigger shock to learn some extra money would come into the program. The school receives a $1,500 grant.

“It’s tremendous to be able to give back to the young men of the program that made this award what it is,” Hughes said. “I know my name is on that award but that award is a testament to our coaches and our players.”

Hughes, his family and coaching staff are invited to the December 15th matchup with the Bengals. Hughes said receiving this honor was not on his radar.

“It kind of caught me off guard, I’ll be honest,” Hughes said. “Never thought anything of it, I had no idea about it. So, it’s a pretty big honor and a huge shock for me.”

Being a small, rural school, Hughes said the $1,500 will go a long ways for the Wildcats. News of the award has spread and Hughes said it’s just as much the community’s award as it is his.

“To be able to work with the relationships that we have with our players, to be able to develop those relationships and continue those relationships,” Hughes said. “I had numerous alumni that played for me reach out to me last night and congratulate me.”
