The Overton County School Board approved proceeding with an Allons Elementary traffic study during Tuesday night’s meeting.
Director of Schools Donnie Holman said the traffic study will be part of the school system’s process to expand several schools including Allons Elementary. Holman said the state asked the school system to perform a traffic study before proceeding with construction. Holman said the state wants the study done as Celina Highway would likely be impacted.
“They are looking at changing the entrance and exit possibilities there,” Holman said. “So and it involves that state road so the state wanted us to have this traffic study so they would have more information about that.”
Holman said the traffic study would monitor traffic flow and would likely take several weeks to complete. Holman said plans are not final but the study would provide information about the safest area for an entrance and exit should that need to be changed.
“I supposed to see whether it would be safe and adequate to have an entrance and exit at a different place and if the changes that we might want to make would be feasible,” Holman said.
Holman said the traffic study will help bring the finishing touches to construction plans.
“After that, then we’ll take that data and we’ll get back with the architect and make sure we use that data to help us plan properly,” Holman said.
Holman said even though the state is asking the school system to do the study the school system is having to pay for the study. Holman said he is not sure of when the traffic study would begin but imagines that it would begin fairly soon.
