Crews will begin work to expand Monterey’s walking trail this week.
Cultural Administrator Julie Bohannon said workers will also attempt to repair part of the existing trail.
“They built a boardwalk behind the police station that connects to Crossville Street and during all the flooding it lifted that portion of the trail up,” Bohannon said. “There’s some damage now and they will be addressing that also.”
Bohannon said the 1,000-foot expansion from Poplar Street to Oak Street will make the trail more than one mile in length.
“This is a collaboration between the City of Monterey and the State Health Department to improve quality of life for our citizens,” Bohannon said. “This trail will help link a residential area to downtown business.”
Bohannon said the expansion project will take about two weeks to complete.
