Monterey To Seek Safety Equipment Funding

The City of Monterey will apply for a grant to provide safety gear to city workers.

Mayor Bill Wiggins said the Public Entity Partners grant greatly benefits the community.

“That is a fifty percent matching grant. Monterey has customarily used that grant to equip our workers, our street crews, our guys who work outside with safety shoes,” Wiggins said. “And that is what that will be directed to.”

Wiggins said Monterey has received the grant for many years because the workers continue to need shoes.

“I have been mayor for five years, so [we have applied for] as long as I can remember,” Wiggins said. “Yes, indeed and they wear them out. They last about a year. Our guys work hard.”

Monterey must submit the application by August 1. The Monterey Board of Aldermen and Mayor approved participation in the program Monday.
