Monterey faces an expensive repair after a turbine broke at the water plant last month.
Water Treatment Plant Supervisor Duane Jarrett said the project will cost between $25,000 and $30,000.
“We’ve got to set a crane up beside the lake. It’s the building that sticks out in the water and the roof has to be lifted off,” Jarrett said. “The whole turbine assembly is about 20 feet long and it has to come out as a unit. So the pull on that with the crane is going to be expensive. I just wanted to let you all (board of aldermen) know that it’s an expensive repair coming.”
Jarrett informed the board of mayor and aldermen about the repair during this month’s meeting. He said the town’s water fund will pay for the project.
“There’s not really options. You’ve got to do it,” Jarrett said. “It couldn’t been of worse timing, but beyond that everything is normal.”
The board did not approve any motions to begin making the repairs. That will likely occur during the February meeting.
