Monterey is looking to add gas connections to city hall and the police station as a part of ongoing HVAC upgrades.
Mayor Nathan Walker said a new unit has been approved at city hall and is currently being installed. Walker said bids for the police station will be considered next week.
“Gas just runs more efficient and seems to last longer, has an lower overall operating cost,” Walker said. “Hopefully, that will be the best value for our purchase there.”
Walker said the city hall system is over 20-years-old. Walker said it was finally time to replace it after several years of constant repair.
“It was located in the attic of the building,” Walker said. “It was very hard to get to and very hard to repair. Almost impossible to repair actually, so that unit just needed to be completely replaced. We’ve been putting money into that system for years on the repairs.”
Walker said the police department HVAC unit will cost about $10,000. Gas connections have been discussed by the town’s Fiance Committee but has yet came to the full Board of Aldermen for approval yet.
