Monterey Outdoor Classroom Moving Forward After Pre-Construction Meeting

After an initial pre-construction meeting, Monterey has a new utility plan for the Depot’s outdoor classroom project.

Mayor Nathan Walker said instead of using a panel from the Depot, power will directly connect to the area.

“That we we can have power for the train cars for the outdoor classroom and really the options will be unlimited at that point, because we will have plenty of power,” Walker said.

Walker said he sees the space being used by the patrons of the Depot Museum and utilized for local educational opportunities. As for the project as a whole, Walker said the work is moving forward as planned.

“I think it is going to be used in a bunch of different ways,” Walker said. “They are looking at being able to have events there to coincide with the rail carts already there. I know the Monterey Depot Society has a lot of good ideas.”

The $84,000 project would provide a public gathering space near the museum and construct decks for the train cars on the property. Walker said right now, the area lacks in that regard and only has a parking lot.
