An elderly Monterey man could face charges after striking a Cumberland County School Resource Officer Tuesday afternoon.
Tennessee Highway Patrol reports 87-year-old Patrick Hicks III struck 51-year-old Officer Scott Iles around 3:12 p.m.
The incident report indicates Hicks was traveling south on Highway 127 in a 2014 Ford Focus while Iles was directing traffic at North Cumberland Elementary School.
The report states Iles was run over by Hicks, hit the car’s windshield, and landed 50 in front of the vehicle.
Cumberland County School District and Sheriff’s Office released a joint statement following the incident, saying Iles was airlifted to a local hospital as a precaution.
THP reports charges are currently pending against Hicks. No word on the extent of Iles’ injuries or his current condition.
