Two Monterey individuals face charges after leading Monterey police on a vehicle pursuit Thursday morning.

Arrest warrants indicate that officers paced a white Buick traveling approximately 60 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Officers engaged the emergency equipment but the vehicle increased its speed in an attempt to evade.

After a half mile, the Buick crashed through a fence on Bee Rock Rd. Officers identified Ashburn as the driver and Shultis as the passenger and owner of the vehicle.

Ashburn reportedly was unsteady on his feet, had red watery eyes, and slurred speech. Ashburn admitted to drinking several bottles of strong liquor.

Officials found open bottles of rum and Jack Daniels inside the vehicle.

Authorities booked Ashburn into the Putnam County Jail on a $4,250 bond. Shultis faces a $500 bond.
