Monterey Looks To Grow Meadow Creek Trails With Grant

Monterey has applied for a Department of Health Grant for hiking and biking trails at Meadow Creek Park.

Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said the hope is to add onto existing trails and start a new system with the goal of bringing them together. However, Cleary said that with funding being an issue for Monterey, the city has to be aggressive in its plans to grow Meadow Creek Park and tourism with grants.

“There’s got to be things out there to attract people,” Cleary said. “Mountain bike trails, walking trails, we have plans in the future to do some better boating access out there. As far as ramps, we’d like to see a pier constructed out there at some point. Maybe, add some playground equipment, some camping opportunities.”

Cleary said the grant is for up to $48,000 and believes Monterey will hear if they are awarded the grant this Spring. Although, He said if everything works out with the grant, trail development could begin in the Summer.
