Monterey has finally located a used ladder truck to purchase after searching for a couple of years.
Mayor Nathan Walker said the town has received one bid from a Texas fire department that can move forward upon inspection.
“Our fire chief should be going out to take a look at that and do his inspections hopefully very soon,” Walker said. “We’re very excited about that. It’s a big project for a town like Monterey with a volunteer fire department.”
Walker said the vehicle will cost about $170,000. Walker said newer equipment for the department is desperately needed. Walker said the town has not had a working fire truck with a ladder in several years.
“New ones can go northward of $800,000 to $900,000 to a million dollars,” Walker said. “So, we were naturally looking at more used options with low mileage, good condition and well maintained options that would be more in line with our budgetary needs.”
Walker said the town solicited bids nationwide. In June, Monterey only received one bid, but it did not meet the town’s criteria. The bid process restarted at that point leading to this ladder truck.
