Monterey to Draft Social Media Policy

Monterey’s Technology Committee will draft its first social media policy tomorrow.

Mayor Bill Wiggins said the policy will protect Monterey.

“To establish guardrails, ditches, some avenue with precautions for protecting the constitutional rights,” Wiggins said. “And what actually goes out there on the official name of Monterey.”

Wiggins said the policy will help Monterey create an official website.

“There’s some domains out there of Monterey,” Wiggins said. “But Monterey is interested also in, other than a policy, but to manage their own website.”

Surrounding towns gave a template of the policy, Wiggins said.

“We received a prototype from several towns close to our situation here to go by. So they will be looking at those,” Wiggins said. “I’m sure people with be interjecting their own ideas. We do have a template to work on. ”

The board of mayor and aldermen will review the policy soon, Wiggins said.

“Once the committee has adopted the policy, I think the board will be amenable to those in a short order,” Wiggins said.

The Technology Committee will meet Friday, May 4th.
