Monterey Approves Official Ward Lines With No Changes

Monterey has officially drawn its voting ward lines after the Putnam County Election Office indicated it did not have record of the boundaries.

Mayor JJ Reels said the matter was brought to his attention by Election Administrator Michele Honeycutt.

“Just like Michele said the other night, this started with Brandon Smith because they don’t have anything at E-911 that separates the wards,” Reels said. “So he came to Michele at the Election Commission.”

The adopted lines follow a 1981 ordinance which has been used for the wards since approval. Reels said that means no changes will happen with Aldermen or voters.

“We’ll get this to the Election Commission tomorrow morning,” Reels said. “That way they can have it, and we will be good to go.”

The wards are basically separated into fourths by a “X.”  The east-west follows Commercial Avenue. The north to south line goes from Chestnut Street to Commercial Avenue over to Elm Street then straight done to the interstate.

The Monterey Bard of Aldermen and Mayor held a work session last week over the ward lines.
