Mills Hopes Tennessee Ave Will Reopen At End Of Month

Don’t expect Tennessee Avenue in front of the FedEx site to reopen anytime soon.

Cookeville City Manager James Mills said subgrade work has supposedly been completed. Now, the city needs to time the final gravel surface with T-DOT to pave the road.

Mills told the Joint Economic Community Development Board Tuesday that with some good luck the work should be completed at the end of the month.

Mills said Garrett Brothers Construction has poured its concrete entrance in and crews have been driving on the road. The road remains closed to mail service.

The road has been closed since April. The surface needed to be upgraded to industrial level to handle large concrete trucks. Further delays occurred when the dirt under the road was bad and up to six feet of earth had to be removed.

The city had to dish out several hundred thousand dollars to pay for the dirt work.
