A Putnam County judge has sentenced Martell Smith of Memphis to 30 years for selling and delivering a controlled substance in a school zone.
A Putnam County Criminal Court hearing took place on Monday for Smith’s sentencing.
Smith must serve the first 25 years at 100 percent while the remaining 5 years must be served at 35 percent.
On September 13, Smith was tried before a jury and was convicted of selling over o.5 grams of cocaine in a school zone.
Smith was accused of selling 2.4 grams of cocaine at the Taco Bell near Sylvan Learning of Cookeville and Crossville on South Jefferson Avenue.
Patterson classified Smith as a Range II offender, meaning he has a prior felony record classifying him as a multiple offender. Smith faces a first-degree murder charge in Shelby County.
The selling of a controlled substance in a school zone is considered a Class A felony.
