McMinnville Tourism Development Board Searching For Administrator

McMinnville’s Tourism Development Board is on the hunt for a new administrator.

Chairperson Sarah Cantrell said that with growth in tourism for the area, it’s become an increasing need to have someone as the contact point for the board.

“You don’t really hear about tourism-related jobs a lot but it’s very specific in an economic development board where your sole purpose is to follow the directive of the board and that’s just to tell the story of McMinnville and promote all of the wonderful assets that we have here.”

Cantrell said that the administrator’s work would focus on the promotions of McMinnville through its monthly board meetings, projects, and grant work. She said that it’s a perfect opportunity for people to take part in their community, especially as tourism job openings aren’t offered very frequently.

Cantrell said that because the board has had some struggles in getting applicants, they’ve pushed the deadline to apply back. She said that the board wants to make sure that they find the right candidate to join their team.

“I don’t think we’re any exception to what a lot of employers are seeing right now with a staffing shortage,” Cantrell said. “But also as I mentioned before you don’t really hear about tourism-specific jobs or opportunities. I think that’s something we will continue to see in our area and in our region, more opportunities to work specifically in tourism. But I think it can also be very intimidating because you don’t hear about it a lot. But if you are somebody that is very detail-oriented that has had an interest in working in the public sector as well as an interest in promotions and marketing and all the other things that go into reaching out to potential tourists and visitors and spreading the message of why they need to visit McMinnville, this is the perfect opportunity for you.”

She said that those interested have the ability to apply on the city’s website by November 5th at 2 p.m.
