McMinnville Board Offers City Administrator Position

The McMinnville Board of Aldermen and Mayor decided to offer the City Administrator position to Nolan Ming Tuesday.

Mayor Ben Newman said the board believes current Codes Director Ming will serve the city well.

“Mr. Ming has a good track record in his current position he works well with the public and he has a high aptitude for this position. And he lives here,” Newman said. “He’s not someone we have to worry about leaving. He’s not someone we have to worry about integrating into our community because he is already here and has been here.”

Newman said the Board of Aldermen received 42 applications for the position and conducted several interviews. Newman said the board ultimately wanted to hire someone local.

“The next steps with that will be to sit down with Mr. Ming to go over compensation packages with him, salary, any benefits, things like that we can mutually agree upon,” Newman said. “And that will go back to the full board for a final vote for that compensation.”

The position opened up after Bill Brock announced his retirement as the interim administrator in November.

“It’s good for the city to have someone in charge. Bill Brock who has been there for four years now has retired and Mr. Ming will be taking over,” Newman said. “Luckily Mr. Brock is gracious enough to stick around and help with the transition. Which we are really thankful for him.”

Newman said Brock will officially retire in early May.
