McMinnville Appreciation Day Thursday Offers Free Lunch For Community

McMinnville residents can enjoy a free lunch on Thursday as the city celebrates Community Appreciation Day.

City Stormwater Manager Lyndon Bussell says that the city has talked about hosting this event for some time. Bussell said community members have joined forces and now is the right time.

“Here in McMinnville, we have a very close-knit community that help each other out,” said Bussell. “They’re involved. We really just wanted to pick a day out of the year to celebrate them. To offer something for them.”

The community can grab a hot dog, chips, dessert, and a drink at either the Farmer’s Market or the West Riverside Market on Old Morrison Road between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Residents can pull up and take a bagged lunch on the go, or they can stop and share the meal with other members of their community at tables and benches that will be set up at the two venues, Bussell Said.

“People really care about this place,” Bussell said. “And they want to help drive it in a direction that they want and we’re definitely here to listen and steer it that way.”

Bussell said community support and feedback for city government and leadership are a big part of what makes the people of McMinnville special.

“We see you guys,” Bussell said. “We see everyone in their civic engagement. We’ve had a lot of different opportunities to participate such as the public trust survey. We’re doing ordinance changes too. We’re giving people opportunities and it’s great to see the feedback and people that want to be involved in the things that we do.”
