Local Businesses And City Government Working To Restart Algood Business Association

Algood is working to revamp its Business Association program after COVID put the program on pause.

Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler said the association started many years ago as a way for business owners to socialize and network. She said they hope the interest is still there among businesses to bring it back.

“You know Algood has seen this boom in business so we thought it would be a good idea to try to restart the Algood Business Association,” Chapman-Fowler said.

Chapman-Fowler said having the association will also help local businesses with grant opportunities. She said they have learned that there are several grants available for small businesses that cannot be applied for through the city government.

Chapman-Fowler said those grant dollars could be put towards sidewalks, lighting projects, and building refurbishments. She said they plan to have their first meeting on June 22nd at Algood City Hall.

“And I have to give credit to Mr. Jeremy Whitson of Whitson Excavating, he is the one who has taken this on,” Chapman-Fowler said. “And is trying to organize it and put people in the right situations so that we know where we’re meeting, what we’re doing. We hope there’s going to be a groundswell of interest and Algood business owners will come out and give us some good ideas.”

Chapman-Fowler said right now there are no specific requirements for business owners to join. She said if there are any questions to contact Algood City Hall.
