The City of Livingston will undergo a downtown sidewalk project in the coming year.
Mayor Curtis Hayes said the city received a TDOT multimodal access grant to complete the project.
“Well, we are happy. Anytime you can have a positive impact in your community. As displayed today, we have some drainage problems,” Hayes said. “And some sidewalks that just don’t meet ADA requirements and I think that we are fortunate.”
Hayes said Livingston will only take financial responsibility for 20 percent of the project’s cost.
“We are excited about it, I am happy, tickled that we got it. And anytime you can get the State of Tennessee or the federal government to pay 80 percent of the project that needed to be done for quite some time, you’ve just hit a home run. And I think we just hit a home run today.”
Hayes said the Downtown Revitalization group wants to address drainage problems, sidewalk connectivity, and ADA-compliance.
“We just want to make sure that our citizens and community is always ADA compliant to better serve our community, ” Hayes said. “And people that are on a walker or in a wheelchair will have a safe place to come to town and shop and eat.”
The project will begin the preliminary design phase before seeking environmental clearance.
