Livingston Ready To Begin Third Annual Haunted Tour Of Downtown

Livingston preparing to scare up some ghosts with its third annual Haunted Downtown Walking Tours.

The one-day event was so popular in years past that it is now being held each Saturday from October 14 to October 28. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shannon Cantrell said that despite the supernatural nature of the event it will be appropriate for all ages.

“We definitely want it to be a family-friendly event,” Cantrell said. “So, you know, if we wanted to, I mean we could, you know, put some little props up and have, you know, people jump out. We don’t want to do all that because we really do want to focus on the history of Livingston.”

Cantrell said the tours will be hosted by Darren Shell, a Livingston resident and published author with a special interest in the city’s history.

“He has actually written a small book about the haunted history of Livingston, which makes him very qualified to handle these tours,” Cantrell said “And he handles it in such a great way ’cause he’s a great storyteller.”

Cantrell said that the Chamber of Commerce is looking to promote Livingston as a tourism hub for the state, and events like these aim to entertain people from all over.

“Being able to have events this time of year, such as Falloween, and being able to do these haunted historic walking tours, I mean it gives people in our area something to do besides, you know, feel like they have to travel too far to enjoy themselves,” Cantrell said.

Tickets for the tour cost $5 per person and can be purchased at www.discoverlivingstontn.com/hauntedtours. There are two tours each night, one at 7:00pm and one at 8:30pm. Children under six can attend for free.
