Livingston Prepares for Water Line Projects

The City of Livingston will begin waterline projects in the coming months.

Mayor Curtis Hayes said the first project focuses on the Hilham area.

“This is going to extend a finished water line down to Hilham residents and right now we are struggling with supplying the demand,” Hayes said. “So we have got to get more water to the Hilham residents to put in the tanks to give them more volume and more pressure.”

Hayes said leftover funds for the project will allow the city to purchase a leak protection survey.

“We’ve got to fix some leaks and like most systems do and we will try our best to do that. I think this leak survey for just $24,000 is just a no-brainer,” Hayes said. “At the end of the day, we saved about $800,000 coming in on the low bid.”

Hayes said the projects will allow the city to better serve the community.

“You know, when you are raising water rates, you just want to make sure that you are as frugal with the revenues and as frugal with the water costs that you can,” Hayes said. “If your leakage is so high then it doesn’t matter how much water you get to.”

The Livingston Board of Aldermen and Mayor approved the projects Monday.
