The Livingston Police Department has purchased 10 new bulletproof vests for patrol officers.
Police Chief Greg Etheredge said the vests were being swapped back and forth between officers to keep them going. However, Etheredge said with new officers in the department it was important to ensure every officer’s safety.
“This new technology, they’re lighter weight and they’ll be more comfortable for the officers,” Etheredge said. “Especially in the Summer time, of course we require them to wear them when they’re on patrol. We’re very grateful to be able to get those for the officers.”
Etheredge said the vests cost about $900 a piece, but for five years of protection he said it’s worth the cost. Etheredge said the funding for the vests come from the department’s equipment budget.
