Livingston Hires New Building Codes Inspector

A local contractor will serve as the new Livingston Codes Inspector.

The Livingston Board of Aldermen and Mayor voted Monday to hire Kristian Mansell.

Mayor Curtis Hayes said the choice came as an obvious one.

“Well, Kristian has just got extensive work in the contracting field. So with him being a contractor and has been for many years, all of his references checked out,” Hayes said. “Every one of them said we would be fortunate to have him.”

Hayes said Mansell will have six to twelve months to complete his Building Inspector Certification.

“And you know, he is going to work for about two weeks under the tutelage of Mr. Sims. And he’s not going to learn the job overnight. Working in the private sector and working in the public is just different. But I feel comfortable that Kristian will do the city of Livingston a good job.”

The position opened up after Darius Sims announced his retirement in April.

“We are certainly going to miss Mr. Sims. [He] has done a great job for many many years for the city of Livingston,” Hayes said. “He will deeply be missed. We certainly wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Sims will resign from the position on the last day of June.
