An improperly mounted light fixture ignited a smoldering fire at a Putnam County home Thursday.
The Putnam County Fire Department responded to 7137 Brotherton Mountain Road just before 10 a.m.
Chief Tom Brown said the investigation determined that a single light bulb caused several towels to catch fire.
“It was producing heat in excess of 500-degrees off of that single light bulb and it was pointing directly at where the towels were on the shelf,” Brown said. “There was no damage to the structure. A little bit of smoke inside, but she was extremely lucky that there wasn’t anything else there.”
Brown said the homeowner didn’t spot the fire until several hours after it broke out. No injuries occurred and crews left the scene about an hour after responding.
