Jackson County Director of Schools Kristy Brown has been named the Upper Cumberland Superintendent of the Year.
The award is voted on by other school directors in the region. Brown said the recognition from peers makes the award even more special.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve students and children in my county,” Brown said. “This is where I grew up and this is where I love. So I think gratitude just from the recognition and support that I get to do what I do everyday.”
Brown said the past few years have been very challenging, but one thing has stayed at the forefront of her mind: working hard to serve kids everyday. Brown said the staff of Jackson County Schools made it all possible.
“My teachers, my central office folks here, I cannot do the job that I do without the support of them,” Brown said. “You can see that tonight by the group that I had here tonight in support of my award. I am so grateful, and I believe that I have the best staff.”
Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents Director Dale Lynch traveled to Gainesboro Thursday to honor Brown. She will now be one of eight nominees for 2023 State Superintendent of the Year that will be distributed in September.
“Superintendent Brown is one of the most engaged superintendents that we have in our entire state,” Brown said. “She works very close with me on legislative issues, she represents you well and she represents Tennessee well.”
Brown has served Jackson County Schools for three years.
