For only the second time ever, County Executive Jimmy Johnson voted to break a tie vote at the county commission meeting.
Johnson said that was required after a 5-5 vote for chair Pro-Temps. He said the two nominees were commissioners Benny Hughes and Larry Cooper.
“It says that there’s a lot of confidence in your leadership and you’re going to have to break a tie,” Johnson said. “And sometimes you can go for or against. And I’m that we’ve not had to always do that, that was just our second time because our commission always tries really hard to work together and I hope it continues that way.”
Larry Cooper was elected Chair Pro Temps. Johnson was re-elected as the chair of the board.
