Thursday’s snowfall in Cookeville was the highest amount recorded on January 6th since 1996.
That is according to Local Weather Observer Michael Detwiler. He said Cookeville got about five inches while some areas in the region exceeded seven inches.
“Livingston got 6.5 inches so the numbers were really up there, and I’ve heard some reports and I haven’t verified them but nin inches up in the Jamestown area,” Detwiler said.
Detwiler said he forecasts the remainder of January to fluctuate from warm to cold quite often. Detwiler said winter time in Tennessee is not like others where it can warm quickly thanks to influence from the Gulf of Mexico.
Detwiler said in January, the normal high is usually 47 and low at 28. The drop to single digits early Friday morning did not set any records. Detwiler said the Cookeville area saw a low of minus three in 2014.
