Jackson Schools To Bid Out For Rubber Mulch At DBS And JCMS

Jackson County School Board will bid out for rubber mulch instead of wood at Dodson Branch School and Jackson County Middle School.

Maintenance Supervisor Josh Morgan said that the cost will be more upfront, but will better serve the school in the long run both in finance and student safety.

“That material cost is probably going to be around closer to 50 (thousand),” Morgan said. “From the clacuatlions I’ve done. But we won’t have to buy it anymore. We might have to add to it a little bit every few years, but we can do that ourselves.”

Morgan said that the pre-K playground made the switch several years ago, and the mulch is still good as new.

Director of Schools Kristy Brown said that she would explore the possibility of using ESSER funds for the bid. She said that it could fall under “outdoor improvement.”
