The Jackson County Board of Education seeing its investment into school materials paying off.
The school district spent some $400,000 to adopt a new curriculum for reading two years ago. Director of Schools Kristy Brown said the system overall improved, but Dodson Branch School received the state’s highest rating for academic growth.
“In our early grades in literacy and of course, we have invested a lot there,” Brown said. “We’re proud of our teachers and students in all of our areas, but we saw the most growth there.”
Dodson Branch School was named a level five school by the state. It’s based off of literacy, numeracy, and composite student growth as measured by end-of-year testing. Brown said overall, the district saw a seven percent increase in reading proficiency levels on state testing.
