Jackson School Board Approves Tri-County Roofing Bid

Jackson County Schools will partner with Macon County Schools to repair the Tri-County TCAT building roof.

The Jackson School Board voted Thursday to split the cost. Director of Schools Kristy Brown said the district will pay some $64,000 of the estimated $130,000 price.

“It needs to be done if our kids are going to keep… it’s a need,” Brown said. “I am happy that they have looked at that again and I think it’s not a full replacement, it’s the areas that need to be done.”

Brown said this bid comes in about half of the price of the original bid. The roof project has been bid out once before by the Macon School System last year. The bid was sent to the school board to consider, but members at the time wanted more information.

“They did put some tarp there and do some patching it and replaced some tiles like within the last couple months,” Brown said. “So, I think we need to do something.”

Brown said the repairs should allow for students to be in the building once again. The facility is used for trades such as welding and culinary arts.

“I believe that this portion here is going to fix the existing leaks and things like that and get it in good shape for students to attend,” Brown said.

Brown said the maintenance of the building is important for the future.
