Jackson County to Build New Walking Track

Jackson County will build a new walking track at the board of education building.

Mayor Randy Heady said the county uses that area for a youth soccer league.

“We hope to begin construction in the fall,” Heady said. “I know that’s kind of a bad deal, but we’d like to have it up and ready for use by the spring of next year before  youth soccer starts.”

Jackson County will use a $20,000 Tennessee Department of Health grant to pay for the project. Heady said the county began accepting bids for the project earlier this month.

“Bids will open on the 27th of this month,” Heady said. “Anybody wanting to bid on this can contact the Jackson County Mayor’s Office.”

Heady said the track will be a quarter of a mile in length.

“This part of the health initiative in Tennessee and making healthier things to do in the state,” Heady said.

Heady said the county will look at the possibility of including lighting around the track.
