Jackson Co. Back To Drawing Board After Remodel Bids Come In High

Jackson County’s bids for remodeling work at the new county building have come in almost two times over budget.

Mayor Randy Heady said the county received two bids. He said they both were some $120 per square foot.

“We’re just going to have to go back,” Heady said. “The building committee will be meeting after the first of the year. the holiday season is kind of going to slow us down a little bit. But we’ll be meeting with some people and trying to come up with some ideas.”

Heady said the work will help prepare the building to move the County Clerk’s office and the Administrator of Elections offices.

Heady said bids for the fairgrounds remodel also came in high He said high bids are not unexpected for this kind of work in today’s world, but it can slow the county’s processes with the projects.

“But this is something we’ve looked at for some time and it’s something we’re excited to make happen,” Heady said. “With more people moving into our county it means more people are going to vote and this new building will help us during those elections with getting people in and out.”

Heady said there is additional space in the building that could potentially be rented out or used by another government office.
