Jackson Central FD Hosting First Community Virtual Fishing Tournament

The Jackson County Central Fire Department is hosting its first ever virtual bass fishing tournament.

The event starts accepting fish entries this Sunday. Fire Chief Jeff Conn said registration will remain open throughout the month of May.

“We have poker chips that we hand out that everybody that buys into the tournament, they’ll pick up a poker chip,” Conn said. “They’ll have to have a ruler, and they can catch fish off the boat, the bank or kayak. When they catch the bass, just take a picture of it that’s time stamped on their phone or tablet and make sure that coin is in the picture.”

Conn said picture can be posted to the fire department’s social media. At the end of the month, all the pictures will be collected. Conn said prizes will go out to the longest fish and whoever caught the most.

“We’re going to limit it to just inside the waterways of Jackson County,” Conn said. “Ponds are excluded, but it can be any other water way and all the TWRA rules apply.”

Conn said the fire department has explored the virtual idea for a few years. Conn said members wanted to create a fundraiser that did not require gatherings but still had a community feeling. Register to help your local fire department.

“It’s a $30 fee to enter the tournament so all the money that’s raised goes directly to the fire department to help pay our monthly bills,” Conn said. “We pay for our utilities, fuel bill. Also goes to help pay for training and equipment that we need.”

Conn said you can register by visiting the Jackson County Central Fire Department Facebook or contacting a local fire fighter.
