Pickett County Republicans voted to return Carey Garner to the county executive role during Tuesday’s election.
Garner beat challenger Richard Daniel 851-463 in the Tuesday primary race with all nine precincts reporting in Pickett County.
The primary race for sheriff belonged to Dana Dowdy. The incumbent received 72 percent of the votes with a total of 1005 votes. James Coots finished second at 385 votes.
In County Commission District One, Sheila Moon led vote getters with 240 votes. Chris Masiongale finished second with 182 votes while Tony Beaty finished third with 160 votes. The top three move forward. Bill Clark tallied 141 votes, Doug Scroggins with 135 and Tony Milsted with 75.
In District Two, the three up for election all move forward led by top vote getter Francis Copeland.
In District Three, Chris Abbott received 234 votes to lead the four candidates vying for three spots. Frankie Mullins finished second with 210 votes while Larry Beaty finished wirh 196 votes.
Six candidates competed in the Republican primary for district four with three people moving forward, led by Andrew Conner. Conner received 191 votes to 181 for Darrell Garrett. The third candidate to move forward is Tyler Garrett. He received 154 votes outlasting Annie Masiongale by five votes.
Danny Huddleston took the circuit court clerk race in Pickett County.
