The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the skeletal remains found Thursday are those of Joshua Brian Bohannon.
Sheriff Eddie Farris said the remains were found by a citizen in a rural area in the southern portion of Putnam County between Burgess Falls State Park and the Window Cliffs Natural Area.
“This particular area a very difficult area to maneuver even with a person in very good physical condition and shape was not an easy task to get down in this particular area,” Farris said. “So, I doubt very seriously where Mr. Bohannon was found that that area had ever been checked at all.”
Farris said the State Medical Examiner’s Office was able to make a positive identification based on dental records. Farris said the cause of death still pending on a full autopsy report.
“It’ll be quite some time before we get a full autopsy of what the medical examiner can provide to us,” Farris said. “We’ll be waiting to get that back and review that.”
The 27-year-old was reported missing near Burgess Falls on June 3rd of last year. Farris said hundred of hours were spent investigating this missing person case.
“It’s been a long nine months,” Farris said. “I just hope this brings some closure to the family. Obviously, we wish we would have found Mr. Bohannon in a good way.”
