LHP Development and Highlands Residential Services (HRS) began the renovation process at Walnut Village in Cookeville Friday.
LHP CEO Alvin Nance said the newly-remodeled units will be of great benefit to Walnut Village residents.
“We’re talking about spending around $50,000 per unit,” Nance said. “We’re talking about replacing all the kitchen counters, the cabinets, new flooring, upgrades in the bathrooms… We’re also talking about installing energy-efficient operations inside of the building so that it will lower the utility costs for residents living here as well.”
HRS and community leaders celebrated the beginning of the renovation process during a special ceremony at Walnut Village.
Nance said the renovation process will change more than just the interior of each unit.
“I do believe that there’s some exterior things that we’re going to be doing to beautify the outside of the properties so the outsides will look great,” Nance said. “We heard some folks speak a moment ago about being long-term residents here and some of them are new residents here. But I think there’s a sense of pride that some of the residents will have from this investment that’s being made.”
HRS Executive Director Dow Harris previously reported that the renovation process could take 12-14 months to complete. Some residents at Walnut Village have been or will be relocated while renovation work is underway.
