HRS Adds To Its Long Term Development Plan

The Highlands Residential Services’ Development Plan has been enlarged with the recently purchased Eagles Landing property being officially added.

Executive Director Dow Harris said the long term five phase master plan now focuses on 80 some acres located near Buffalo Valley Road.

“We are looking at constructing approximately a total of 248, 250 units in five phases,” Harris said. “Which two are under way, one is under construction, one is funding in place for phase two and we are looking at submitting some applications for funding for phase three.”

Phase one includes Oak Tree Towers with 50 units. Harris said construction is about one third complete. The planned 48 units of Hickory Valley near Cane Creek Elementary School also being apart of the future.  Harris said groundbreaking for Hickory Valley is set for the spring.

Harris said the organization will also seek funding for another multi-family site for phase three next spring.

“We’re pretty optimistic we are primarily going to be seeking a nine percent tax credit funding allocation again through THDA,” Harris said. “Of course, that is a competitive grant process through tax credit systems, so we will have a better idea in a couple months of where we actually stand on that.”

Harris said the developments are meant to serve individuals age 62 and older.
