A new Holiday Inn hotel is coming to South Willow Avenue in Cookeville at the old Race Track gas station site.
Putnam County Executive Randy Porter said the hotel will be a much-needed addition to the area.
“A lot of times on weekends, with the hotels we’ve got, even though we’ve got 1,400 rooms they stay booked up a lot,” Porter said. “I think it’ll be a good addition to that area of Willow.”
Porter said the new Holiday Inn will be unlike any other in Cookeville.
“This is a prefab concrete building that they’re going to move in and have a rooftop-type restaurant and so forth,” Porter said. “From the initial plans that I saw, It looks like it’ll be a really nice hotel.”
The hotel is expected to open July 2019 with construction beginning late this month. Porter said the new Holiday Inn shouldn’t have any effect on the Holiday Inn Express & Suites located on Bunker Hill Road.
The new Holiday Inn will be the first major chain hotel located along South Willow Avenue.
