Historic Granville Program Gives Young Musicians A Chance To Play At The Ryman

Historic Granville adding a new program to the Sutton Ole Time Music Hour giving young bluegrass musicians a chance to play at the Grand Ole Opry.

President Randall Clemons said it is called Bluegrass for Kids.” Each Saturday from now until the end of March a young musician will perform and be entered for a final competition to perform at the Ryman Auditorium.

“They will be coming back at the Uncle Jimmy Thompson Bluegrass Festival on May the 28th to perform in competition,” Clemons said. “It’s a great program to encourage young people to perform in bluegrass music.”

Clemons said the players have been selected by Jimmy Bilbrey who operates the program. Clemons said the program serves as good exposure for young musicians with the Saturday night shows played nation-wide through radio partners.

Clemons said young performers will play one number during the Music Hour Radio Program to qualify. Clemons said the winner of the competition will play in Nashville in the summer. Clemons said all performances are open to the public to attend.

“For our dinner which occurs at 5:00 and 6:30, and then they have a reserved seat for the bluegrass performance, as well,” Clemons said. “So, it’s a great country menu all you can eat in our Sutton Store Dining Room and the music is performed in the center part of the store.”
