Hillham Business Owner Appointed To Vacant Overton Commission Seat

Roger Carr will serve on the Overton County Commission.

Three nominees applied for the open commissioner seat in Overton County’s District Five on Monday night. After each nominee stated their case, the majority of commissioners voted to appoint Carr to the vacancy.

Carr said he has a focus on the next generation of residents and wants to help the county serve all residents.

“I’ll try to be fair and I’ll always have a listening ear for them,” Carr said. “So if they want to come to me, they’re welcome.”

Carr is from Hillham and said he is semi-retired but operates Carr Water Well Drilling. Carr said he already has an idea on what he would like to be involved with on the county commission.

“I’d like to be in education because I like to be around young people and I like to speak to young people,” Carr said. “The nursing home, I like to be around older people too.”

The District Five seat opened up when current commissioner Lee Richards moved to District One. Carr’s term will run until August 31, 2022.
