Highlands Economic Partnership Training Facility To Be Located On Spring St

Highlands Economic Partnership has secured a location for its new training facility to be a part of the Empower UC pilot-program.

Training Center Executive Director Ryan Barnhart said the organization leased a building at 1736 East Spring Street across from Johnson’s Nursery.

“What we are looking to do is bring 1,600 children out of poverty over the next three years,” Barnhart said. “Our piece at Highland Economic Partnership with the Highlands Training Center is we are going to be bringing individuals to our training center and doing hands on training with them.”

Barnhart said the curriculum will cover several items to bring families back into the work force. Barnhart said the some 5,500 square foot building has space for classrooms to handle the 8-week program that covers resume building, emotional intelligence and core skills.

Barnhart said the program is set to open November 1st when the Empower UC initiative begins.

Barnhart said three new paid positions will operate the building. Barnhart said Highlands would consider keeping the operation if the state decides to continue funding the program after the pilot.
