Hail and strong winds caused issues in White County as severe storms came through the Upper Cumberland Thursday night.
White County Emergency Management reported multiple trees down on both the western and eastern end of the county between 7pm and 8pm. Areas impacted include Smithville Highway, Old Smithville Highway, and the downtown area.
The National Weather Service at Nashville reported the storm over Sparta reached the tallest heights of any storm Thursday, up to 40,000 feet.
Ping pong size hail fell in the Bon De Croft area, knocking down limbs. Quarter sized hail was reported on Bon Air Mountain.
Quarter size hail was reported in the Pleasant Hill community of Cumberland County. One report said several windows were broken by the hail.
Pickett County Emergency Management reported a tree down along West Main Street.
Forecasters said another round of strong storms could impact the Upper Cumberland Friday morning, before a rainy cool setup takes over for Friday afternoon and evening, into Saturday. The hottest weather of the season is predicted for early next week.
