Grant Wins Algood City Council by One Vote

Algood City elected two City Council members tonight.

Justin Grant secured his seat by a one-vote difference.

Grant said he needed to thank his father for the extra vote.

“It’s pretty cool. Everybody who was running, I think Algood was in safe hands regardless of who got in it,” Grant said. “But it is pretty nice that a town that probably doesn’t know me incredibly well, showed up to support like that. The trick now is to do the next little stretch to live worthy of that honor.”

Grant had 300 votes in comparison to Ruby Hawkins with 299 votes.

Grant said his focus for Algood concerns growth.

“Algood is going to be growing and I think the main thing is to make sure we have a plan for where we want that growth to take place,” Grant said. “So that we have a sustainable future in front of us and we don’t just get swallowed up. So that is kind of my focus right now.”

Bill D. Bilbrey led the council race with 337 votes, securing his seat as well.
