Cumberland County Commissioners approved Sandy Gilbert as the county’s new property assessor Monday night.
Gilbert replaces Lori Lowe Powell who passed away this spring. Gilbert received 12 of 17 votes for the position. She will serve the next year until an election can be held in 2022 to fill the final two years of Powell’s term.
Gilbert one of 13 candidates who applied for the position. Commissioners heard from all the applicants Monday night before nominating possible candidates. Seheila Drake, Gilbert, Tom Howard, Tory King, Andrew Powell, Kelli Tipton, and Gail Vincent received nominations.
County Mayor Allen Foster gave the oath of office during Monday night’s meeting.
Powell was elected to the position in August, 2020. She had worked in the property assessor’s office for 13 years prior to the election.
