Gasper Hired As Fentress County Solid Waste Director.

The Fentress County Commission appointed a new solid waste director this week.

Jason Gasper replaces Jackie Selby who retired from the position earlier this year. County Executive Jimmy Johnson said Gasper recently completed a 90-day performance trial.

“We’ve not lost a step and he’s dealing with our recycling building that burnt down. It’s going to be back up and going hopefully by the last of March,” Johnson said. “We’re supposed to be getting our building and metal parts by the 26th of February, so he’ll be involved in that. I believe Mr. Gasper will do a really good job for us.”

Gasper has worked for the Fentress County Solid Waste Department for 11 years. Johnson said Gasper served as Selby’s assistant for the past four years.

“We check his worth ethic and it seems to be what we desire coming out of our office,” Johnson said. “I believe he’ll do a good job. He’s stepped in right where Jackie Left off.”

The county has begun the process of building a new recycling center after the old one burnt to the ground in June. Johnson said the new recycling facility will be located on the same property.
